We were delighted host to Samata, a published author, entrepreneur and sustainable fashion and women’s advocate, and her family, as they stayed in one of our beautiful show homes at Athena over the Christmas holiday.
Having grown up in Cambridge, Samata was familiar with the city’s educational reputation and historic buildings. However after moving to London. Samata had forgotten much of the city’s charm including its excellent connections and green spaces, and used her stay at Athena, in Eddington – the University of Cambridge’s newest district – to re-acquaint herself – such as Athena, located in Eddington, the University of Cambridge’s newest district.
Over the course of her seven night stay, Samata shared a glimpse of life at Athena through her blog, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts, as she discovered how our new, sustainable homes provide contemporary space for growing families.
Staying in our four bedroom show house, her family enjoyed the benefits of the large kitchen/breakfast room as well as spacious living/dining room and dedicated utility room over the festive period, which are perfect for hosting and entertaining.
The four bedrooms provided ample space for Samata’s immediate and extended family, with Samata commenting:
“Our home for the holidays is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever stayed in. It felt like home immediately”.
She also admired Eddington and its sustainable ethos, with the centralised energy centre, underground waste system and the UK’s largest rainwater harvesting and recycling system. Additionally, the ease of access to Storey’s Field Centre and Market Square meant that Samata was welcomed as part of the community, and joined the Cambridge African Network’s Christmas party.
Looking to the future, the proximity of the University of Cambridge Primary School, as well as how education is woven in to the community, Samata said:
“I cannot help but think about my little ones’ future and how transformative opportunities and access like this can be”.
Athena is a collection of new homes ranging from studio apartments to five bedroom family houses, and are the first private residential phase at Eddington. Reflecting Eddington’s sustainable ethos, Athena’s new homes have robust insulation, mechanical ventilation and heat circulation, sedum roofs, solar panels, triple glazing and energy-efficient appliances.
