Behind uncomplicated buff brick facades and tall windows, these carefully considered apartments provide joyful, naturally-lit spaces; from the corner orientation that completes a vista to individual terraces and balconies capturing the best of the sunlight.
Individual entrances to every apartment, a first floor landscaped podium and generous ceiling heights provide flexible places to live, to think and work, creating a home, in a convenient, contemporary sustainable Cambridge, for 21st century living.
Athena is part of the ambitious project by the University of Cambridge to deliver a new neighbourhood for Cambridge; one that provides new homes both for sale and for university key workers and staff; a sustainable community offering a high quality of life.
Located just two miles by bike from Cambridge’s market square, and close in size to ninety full size football pitches or 150 times the size of Trafalgar Square, this new district will be called Eddington; so named after the renowned astronomer, mathematician and physicist Sir Arthur Eddington. His observations confirmed some key predictions of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and led to its general acceptance; he was also a Cambridge alumnus and resident in the local area in the early part of the twentieth century.
Hill is constructing the open market housing at this eagerly awaited new neighbourhood and will comprise studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses, all constructed to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5.
Within and around Eddington will be a range of community facilities to support this new neighborhood which includes the University of Cambridge Primary School, Storey’s Field Centre, a Sainsbury’s supermarket, smaller retails shops around the market square, a 4 star hotel, a healthcare centre, sports pitches and parklands.
The new University of Cambridge Primary School which opened on Eddington Avenue in September 2015, is planned to support primary education for children living at Eddington and the nearby area. The homes at Athena are within the catchment area of the University of Cambridge Primary School.
Working with award-winning architects Alison Brooks and Pollard Thomas Edwards, the apartments and houses at Athena demonstrate all the qualities that have made us WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year: passion, attention to detail and quality of design.
