COVID-19 Update

At Hill, the safety and well-being of our colleagues, supply chain and customers is our main priority.

Following new guidance on 13th May 2020 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government we have updated our working practices and are taking the following actions:


We are open for business to both new and existing customers. Our customer service and sales teams are working hard to provide the best possible service in these changing times.

Customers seeking to buy a Hill Home:

Following advice from the Government, we are gradually reopening our marketing suites for pre-booked appointments, with the majority to be open by 29th May 2020. Appointments can be made via our website. If you are shielding yourself or feeling unwell we would ask you to book one of our virtual tours which can also be booked through our website.

To prioritise the wellbeing of customers and employees, we are putting in place stringent new health and safety protocols at all our marketing suites and show homes. These include:

  • Pre-booked appointments only, with one household viewing one property at a time
  • The marketing suites and show homes will be cleaned between viewings and receive a daily deep clean
  • Training our staff on how to conduct viewings while maintaining social distancing
  • There will be marker guides to maintain proper social distancing in all show homes and marketing suites

We encourage customers looking to buy a home to continue using our online platforms, where the entire homebuying process can happen remotely. Customers who are in the process of buying a Hill home and moving in

Our sales staff are available for existing customers to progress their sales and to support and manage the handover and completion process.

For those customers who are due to complete their home sale over the coming months, we will endeavour to ensure you are able to complete your purchase and move into your new home in line with Government guidance. At present, we plan for all move-ins to be conducted in person with a member of the sales team and construction team. Social distancing rules will be observed during the handover.

Where construction closures have impacted your sale, you will shortly receive correspondence outlining the steps we are taking to progress your purchase.

Customers who already live in a Hill home

Whilst we are seeing activity increase on current working sites and more of our partnering supply chain returning to work, it is still very difficult for us to safely manage our customer service/after sales role within occupied homes. As such we will continue to support our Customers in the event of an emergency, however to protect the safety of our colleagues, customers and contractors, the customer service/after sales side of our business remains closed until further notice.  


The UK Government has maintained throughout the COVID-19 pandemic that construction work should continue during the lockdown period. At the point of lockdown, we did not believe it was feasible for us to continue to operate in a safe manner and we closed our sites accordingly.

The Construction Leadership Council guidance has since evolved and our health and safety team have worked extremely hard with our supply chain to ensure we now believe that we can safely resume controlled operations at a reduced capacity on most of our sites. As a result we have eased restrictions on site, but only when we are satisfied that our employees and supply chains can carry out their work safely. This is being done on a site by site and operation by operation basis. All on site activities are signed off by our health and safety team and we are reviewing this on a daily basis.

The health and safety of our customers, employees, subcontractors and local communities is our number one priority. All employees, when on site, will manage the situation safely, sensibly and practically, including:

  • avoiding the use of public transport where possible
  • minimising close contact with others and practising social distancing
  • using work rotas to ensure safe practices are adhered to
  • implementing stringent hygiene policies
  • managing welfare according to Government guidance
  • restricting use of offices for essential workers only
  • when using office desks, ensuring employees are seated at a safe distance from others
  • maintaining 2m working distance across site at all times, unless previously agreed by the Head of HSE


Our offices remain closed. Please direct all communications by email or phone to the relevant persons and assume that any post will not be opened until it is possible to re-open our offices.


As the COVID-19 situation evolves, we are closely monitoring, and will continue to follow, the guidance of Government and Public Health England. As and when there are any significant changes, we will be sure to update our staff, clients, partners, customers and supply chain as quickly as possible.

As a business, we are fortunate to have a strong balance sheet and cash reserves which gives us economic resilience, as well as the ability to seize opportunities to build our pipeline and invest in growth areas during this time. In almost all aspects we are very much open for business, with several new partnerships in the pipeline and we are currently sourcing, and transacting on, new land opportunities.
